5 Golden Rules for Whom Want to Process Data Recovery Operation

The most painful thing computer user may meet may be the sudden data loss situation during using your computer. Any wrong operation, virus infection or hardware problem can be the threat to your important files you store on your PC. When data loss problem happens, more and more people prefer to use data recovery software which they choose to solve the problem by themselves.

But nowadays, there are many apps on the Internet for users to choose. Perhaps it's good-you can choose which one you like to use 'cause there are so many choices for you. Perhaps it's bad-you don't know the one you choose is good or not. If you can get a good one in tons of data recovery apps, not only can help you to succeed in recovering data, but also save the lost file and the time.

There are many things we need to pay attention to during the process of data recovery. Many users may do some wrong operation which infect data recovery and bring damage to the data they want to recover. So, in this article, I conclude 5 golden rules for the computer users when they want to recover the lost files from computer hard drive or other storage devices.

Rules Users Need to Obey During Data Recovery

1. The worst thing that may happen in the process of data recovery is the wrongly operation which makes the second damage to the original data. This will make data recovery more difficult than before. So remember this: DON'T put anything new into the hard drive or device which the lost data were stored before when data recovery is operating.

2. Don't do SdkChk check. Generally speaking, when file system gets errors, the operating system will remind you if you want to do SdkChk check or not when computer users turn on the computer (System default check after 10 seconds). This check sometimes helps in fixing some damaged directory files, but more it does be damaging data 'cause it cannot fix too complicated directory files. If fixing is failed, a directory will be built and named "FOUND. 000". Many files which are delivered as ".CHK" files will be stored in this directory. Sometimes these files can be recovered by changing their names while sometimes not.

3. Don't do format again. Data will be lost if users format the hard disk. For example, formatting changes from FAT32 to NTFS, or changes NTFS to FAT32. Some users use app to scan the hard drive and want to find out the lost data, but failed, after this, they will format the hard drive so that it will be back to the format which it was. (like I said above, FAT32 to NTFS, etc.) This action is a worst operation which will make the recoverable file become unrecoverable.

4. Don't save the recovered data on the drive which the lost data were stored before. Some users use the recovery software and get the lost data back. But unfortunately the make a big mistake: Save the files on the original drive. This will make data overwritten happen and data overwritten will make data recovery fail. So DON'T save the recovered files on the drive where the lost data were lost from.

5. If data loss happens, DON'T save new files into the path the data were lost from. Moreover, turn off the download app, don't surf internet, turn off some unnecessary apps, and then start scanning and recovering.

Final Though

So complicated the rules to obey above, right? If computer users don't want to do such boring things above, back up your data regularly is a best choice for avoiding data recovery. Back Up Your Files-Most Effective Way to Avoid Data Loss Problem

On our site and blog, we have posted many articles for recovering lost files and help more user to protect their computer data. However, there are still many users want to as the way for protecting the data from corruption or loss. This time this article presents an overview of the possible causes of data loss and how to protect the network against them. You will learn about systems and processes for preventing data loss.

    Data Protection

A site disaster is defined as anything that causes you to lose your data. Many large organizations have extensive disaster-recovery plans to maintain operations and rebuild after a natural disaster such as an earthquake or a hurricane. Many, but not all, include a plan to recover the network. However, a network can incur a disastrous failure from many more sources than natural disasters. Disaster recovery for a network goes beyond the replacing of the physical hardware; the data must be protected as well. The causes of a network disaster, ranging from human acts to natural causes, include:

  • Component failure.

  • Computer viruses.

  • Data deletion and corruption.

  • Fire caused by arson or electrical mishaps.

  • Natural disasters, such as lightning, floods, tornadoes, and earthquakes.

  • Power-supply failure and power surges.

  • Theft and vandalism.

  • In the event of a site disaster, the downtime spent recovering data from backup storage (if you have backups) could result in a serious loss of productivity. And without backups, the consequences are even more severe, possibly resulting in significant financial losses. There is one way I want to tell users to avoid data loss problem-backup.

    Backup

The simplest, most inexpensive way to avoid disastrous loss of data is to implement a schedule of periodic backups with storage offsite. Using a tape backup is still one of the few simple and economical ways to ensure that data remains safe and usable.

Experienced network engineers advise that a backup system should be the first line of defense against data loss. A secure backup strategy minimizes the risk of losing data by maintaining a current backup—copies of existing files—so that files can be recovered if harm comes to the original data. To back up data requires:

  • Appropriate equipment.

  • A regular schedule for periodic backups.

  • Ensuring that backup files are current.

  • Personnel assigned to make sure this schedule is carried out.

  • The equipment usually consists of one or more tape drives and tapes or other mass storage media. Any expense incurred in this area is likely to be minimal compared to the value of what will be saved in the event of data loss.

    Implementing a Backup System

The rule is simple: if you cannot get along without it, back it up. Whether you back up entire disks, selected directories, or files depends on how fast you will need to be operational after losing important data. Complete backups make restoring disk configurations much easier, but can require multiple tapes if there are large amounts of data. Backing up individual files and directories might require fewer tapes, but could require the administrator to manually restore disk configurations.

Critical data should be backed up according to daily, weekly, or monthly schedules, depending on how critical the data is and how frequently it is updated. It is best to schedule backup operations during periods of low system use. Users should be notified when the backup will be performed so that they will not be using the servers during server backup.

    Selecting a Tape Drive

Because the majority of backing up is done with tape drives, the first step is to select a tape drive, weighing the importance of a variety of factors, such as:

  • How much data needs to be backed up.

  • The network’s requirements for backup reliability, capacity, and speed.

  • The cost of the tape drive and related media.

  • The tape drive’s compatibility with the operating system.

  • Ideally, a tape drive should have more than enough capacity to back up a network’s largest server. It should also provide error detection and correction during backup and restore operations.

Tips for Solving Mac Problem You May Meet

When something goes wrong with your Mac, like some reasons may you lose your files, all you care about is getting it fixed fast. But how to fix the problems? How to solve data loss problem? Maybe you’re on the road with your PowerBook and you need to give a presentation in an hour-you don’t care why something went wrong, or even what the best long-term solution may be. You just want to get your Mac working well enough to see you through the meeting; you’ll worry about the rest later.

For such stress-filled times, here are the quick-and-dirty troubleshooting steps you need to follow.

    1. Restart

If your Mac’s performance has slowed to a crawl, or if your applications are freezing, restarting is often all you need to do to get back on track.

    2. Log In with Startup Items Disabled

Log out of your account and log back in-but hold down the shift key when clicking on the Log In button. Continue to hold it until the desktop background appears. You’ve now disabled your Startup Items, the applications that load automatically when you log in. If one of these items was causing a conflict with the software you were trying to use, you should now be good to go.

    3. Switch to a Clean Account

Log in to a separate account, ideally a test account set up in advance for just such occasions. To make this go as quickly as possible, use Fast User Switching (enabled from the Accounts preference pane). If the problem does not occur in the test account, it’s likely due to a file that affects only your Home account. You can diagnose that later. If you’ll need access to a specific document (such as a Keynote file) while in the test account, copy the file to your Public folder before switching accounts.

    4. Do Disk Repairs via Single-User Mode

To fix a corrupt directory, the common recommendation is to use Disk Utility’s Repair Disk option. The only problem is that you can’t repair the current startup volume with Disk Utility. Instead, you need to start up from a Mac OS X Install CD and run Disk Utility from there. But what if you don’t have an Install CD handy, or what if you don’t have time to use one? The quicker alternative is to boot up in single-user mode by holding down Command-S at startup. When the text prompt appears, type

    Fsck -fy

This is almost identical to using Disk Utility. When you’re finished, type

    Reboot

    to restart the Mac.

    5. Repair Disk Permissions

If you’re seeing error messages that say you don’t have permission to do whatever you’re attempting, select Repair Disk Permissions from Disk Utility. You can (and, in fact, should) do this when you boot from the startup volume that is giving you trouble.

But sometimes you will find that even this kind of machine will make some mistakes-perhaps sometimes the mistakes are made by our human, the files loss. Now let’s figure out some reasons of Mac files loss and try to recover them easily.

    What Make Files Loss Happen?

Files loss is an error condition in information systems in which information is destroyed by failures or neglect in storage, transmission, or processing. Information systems implement backup and disaster recovery equipment and processes to prevent data loss or restore lost data.

Files loss is distinguished from data unavailability, such as may arise from a network outage. Although the two have substantially similar effects, data unavailability is temporary, while files loss may be permanent. Files loss is also distinct from data spill, although the term data loss has been sometimes used in those incidents.

Way to Achieve Mac Files Recovery

Before reviewing the below recommendations and suggestions, verify that the files have actually been deleted. In some cases the files may have been moved. You can search the hard disk drive for the files you believe to be missing by running find or search on the Mac.

    ●Recover file from backup

If the file has been backed up to floppy disk or other medium it is recommended that the file be restored from that backup if the file cannot be found.

●Restore from Recycling Bin or Trash

If you are running Apple Mac OS and the file has been recently deleted it is possible that the file may still be in the Trash. If present within this area it can be recovered.

    About Mac OS

Mac OS is a series of graphical user interface-based operating systems developed by Apple Inc. (formerly Apple Computer, Inc.) for their Macintosh line of computer systems. Mac OS is credited with popularizing the graphical user interface. The original form of what Apple would later name the "Mac OS" (currently OSX) was the integral and unnamed system software first introduced in 1984 with the original Macintosh, usually referred to simply as the System software.

The operating system is the successor to Mac OS 9 and the "classic" Mac OS. It is however a Unix operating system, based on the NeXTSTEP operating system and the Mach kernel which Apple acquired after purchasing NeXT Computer - with its CEO Steve Jobs returning to Apple at that time. OS X also makes use of the BSD code base. There have been six significant releases of OS X, the most recent being OS X 10.8, referred to as Mountain Lion.

With this hi-tech system, Mac can bring more fun to us. We not only use it to share the photos, movies and audio files, but also can use it for work. In a word, Mac OS brings us a brand new world. But have you ever thought one day you may lose your data from Mac-for example, the photo loss on you Mac. This article will show you the reasons may cause photo loss on Mac OS and offer you a good way to do Mac lost photo recovery by yourself without any technology skill.

Main Reasons of Mac Data Loss

Photo loss can take place on account of several reasons from simple mistake like that of mishandling the storage devices or improper shutdown to complex reasons of application corruption or hardware or other internal error and bad disk sectors. Data loss can be classified into two types based on the factor leading to it.

    • Physical data loss- takes place due to electronic or mechanical failure

    • Logical data loss- they are caused due to logical faults either due to users, software or hardware including that of accidental deletion, drive format or initialization, drive partition, master directory block corruption, volume header damage etc.

These situations make the drive inaccessible and thus data from the drive or volume cannot be accessed. Here Mac file recovery comes into use.

    Perform Mac OS Photo Recovery

When the photo files were deleted, even emptied from the Trash, they are not gone forever. Actually such deletion just frees space for other data, whereas the removed file info still remains on the hard drive. If the disk or memory card where the lost files were stored before has been overwritten, you will have little chance to recover them. So it is very necessary to avoid data overwriting. And we can recover deleted files by using the Mac OS photo recovery software- uFlysoft Data Recovery for Mac. Here are the solutions.

    1. Download this application first, don't worry, it's totally free for downloading. After that, install it on your Mac.

And among the data of the users store on the computer, some of them are digital photos, technical information, engineering drawings and some personal account. More worse, some of these files are the only copy and have no other backup. This situation brings out one question: Is this kind of file safe? Once data loss happens, how big this loss will be? Any way to bring back the lost data?

    Consequences are Unimaginable

Among these important files, the digital photo is most representative. Nowadays digital camera is used widely. People use it to take photos in order to catch their memories in tourist, celebration, wedding party, etc. After taking photos, users will store these digital photos on computer but not print them out.

But if the computer is down and makes data loss happen, this will make people upset. What’s more, now the young parents like digital product and also will choose a digital camera to catch all the moments for their children. And sure, they will put these digital record on the computer. If data loss happens like I said above, the consequences are unimaginable. The other kind of files like I mentioned above have to face this problem, too.

    Data Loss from Your Device

In some sense, the hard drive is the most important part of your computer ’cause the data which are stored on the hard drive are priceless. And it is also the relative fragility part-any shack, suddenly power on, power off, abnormal power off can lead to damaging the hard drive. Once this happens, data recovery will be more difficult than usual.

Beyond that, the computer virus, accidental deletion, etc, is also the reasons for data loss.

May be you will say that you can store the data on the USB drive. Yes absolutely you can, the USB drive has the same character like a hard drive. But because of its portability, USB drive is more easy to meet problems.

Some Points You Need to Pay Attention to Avoid Data Loss

Because the above info, computer users need to take some actions to avoid the data loss problem. Here is my suggestion:

    1. Store important files in a different storage device. One copy on computer, another on USB drive or other storage device. But of course choose the famous device to storage device.

    2. Build good habits for using computer: update anti-virus software on time, perform system hole repair, don’t visit the site that you are not familiar, don’t receive the emails which comes from the strangers.

    3. Store the data which are not related to personal account or business info on the cloud. But make sure the password is safe enough.

    4. Use the computer in the normal way, don’t move the hardware inside the computer when the computer is on, avoid turning off the computer in the normal way, etc.

    Simple Introduction of Data Recovery

In generally speaking, computer users can recover the lost data in many ways expect the serious damage on the hardware. So if you meet the data loss problem, keep calm first. Data Loss Prevent-Protect Your Important from Data Loss

Prevention is always better cure. In order to avoid data loss situation on your Computer, some of the following steps may help.

    Golden Rule NO 1-Backup

There is nothing that can replace backup to prevent data loss and avoid expensive recovery.

Backup simply means you are keeping at least one copy of the original data, preferably not in the same disk media. Backup could often be misconstrued as the followings:

I backup my notebook data in the external USB drive and then delete the original data in notebook.

I backup my data from the first partition to the second partition in the same physical disk.

Another pitfall is after backup, the backup data is never verified by the user until disaster strikes. Often, much to the horror of the user, the backup data was found to be corrupted, invalid or wrongly done.

If the data is important, store your backups at an off-site location. This helps to protect your backup from damage in case of a fire or disaster.

One practical problem while practicing backup is you need to stop work for such operation to take place. Often, this is not possible. The issue is often compounded by increasing data size, such as your ever-growing mailbox. Every backup operation could become a real pain if you have a busy schedule.

Whatever the situations, one fact remains – Diligent backup is a disciplinary act and the only way for you to circumvent data loss disaster.

    Practice Good Working Habits

While working on your computer, if you choose the correct steps, it will help you to prevent major data loss and in the worst case scenario, will help you to increase the chance of successful recovery.

Partition your drive into a program and data zone. Should some thing happen to the program partition and unless it is a total disk failure, you still stand a good chance to retrieve the data intact from the data partition.

If you have a choice, adopt NTFS file system volume instead of FAT32 file system. Not only it gives you more flexibility in length of filenames and directory, security control, in case of disk corruption, you stand a greater chance of good recovery.

Keep your file names and directory simple and direct which is ideal for direct backup to other media such as CDR/DVD.

If you can help it, do not use file or disk encryption. In case of disk crash, recovery would be more difficult. If you really have to do this for reason of data confidentiality, you may want to protect only those selected files rather than everything.

If you are not using the computer for long period of time, turn it off. Do not put on power save mode and leave it through the night as it stands a greater chance of power surge or unknown damages.

Use an Anti Virus Software and Keep It Updated

Anti-virus software is designed to protect your computer against malicious computer viruses, trojan and other malicious-ware. Some virus infections can delete, modify your data secretly causing your computer to crash. Most viruses nowadays spread through internet and it is a real must to have a secure Anti-Virus software with firewalls.

Be sure to update your Anti-virus software with the latest patch and signature files for maximum security. Anti-virus software without latest update is very vulnerable to attacks by newest strands of viruses which are appearing everyday.

Protect Against Power Suges with An UPS

If your data is important, an un-interrupt power supply protects your computer and data during a power failure. The spare battery in the UPS gives you ample time to save your documents and shut down Windows properly so that you will not lose any files or damage any hardware components.

Tips You May Need in Lost Data Recovery Operation

Let’s get to the important part first-if you’ve just lost your data, skip past this introduction and go directly to our first tip, so you can start your rescue operation. If not, a few minutes spent now might help you a lot in the future. Pay special attention to our third tip.

Note: I always thought of myself as a reliable guy with reliable data. I never deleted my files accidentally, I made regular backups and had a power supply for my computer to protect me against surges and outages. However last year I experienced two cases of data loss where I needed to use data recovery software to recover the lost data. The first was a dead hard drive that’d hardly served a year. Subsequently, I accidentally deleted a large project file that was too big for the Recycle Bin. Happily I’ve got all my data back, thanks to good advice and a little preparation.

Tips You May Need to Mark Down

Tips 1: Use your system as little as possible until you recover all of your lost files. The more activity taking place on your hard disk, the greater the chance that some of your lost data might be written over.

    a) Don’t copy any files to the disk containing your lost data;

    b) Avoid browsing the web, because your web browser saves cache files on the disk;

    c) Don’t launch any unnecessary programs, because they can also use your disk;

    d) Don’t restart your computer.

Tips 2: Before you go further, take steps to free up some space on the disk containing your lost files. The more free space your system has, the less chance of overwriting any lost files with new ones. You can do one or more of the following things.

    a) Delete old files that you don’t need anymore (you can also move them to another source, like a memory SD card, USB drive, etc. instead of deleting);

    b) Empty your Recycle Bin-making sure that you haven’t put any important files in there by mistake;

    c) Empty your browser cache. For Internet Explorer, click on the “Tools” menu, then select “Internet Options”. Then, on the “General” tab, click the “Delete Files…” button.

Tips 3: To install any software after data damage increases the risk of your data being overwritten, so if you haven’t had any data problems yet, consider installing a data recovery program just in case. Prevention is always better than cure, and a recovery program is good insurance for your data. However, if you don’t yet have a recovery program, find one and-if possible-avoid installing it to the disk where your lost files are located.

Note: Most recovery programs work fairly similarly. You need to select the disk where the lost files are located, let the program analyze the content of the disk-this can take a while-and then select the file you want to recover. Then, provide a location where you want to save that file. You should try to avoid recovering files to the same disk. You could use another hard drive, a network or removable media like a floppy disk or USB flash drive.

    Final Conclusion

After you recover your files, check that they are correct. If you’e recovered applications, check that they still run, or if you’e recovered documents, check that your words are still there. Even the best recovery software can’t guarantee 100% results. If some parts of your files were overwritten-meaning that other data was saved to their location on your disk-after recovery they might contain invalid information. Depending on the type of file involved, partially recovered files like this can be mended by special utilities.

Solution for Avoiding Computer Virus Which Make Data Loss Happen

Today we use our computers to do so many things. We go online to search for information, shop, bank, do homework, play games, and stay in touch with family and friends. As a result, our computers contain a wealth of personal information about us. This may include banking and other financial records, and medical information – information that we want to protect. If your computer is not protected, identity thieves and other fraudsters may be able to get access and steal your personal information. Spammers could use your computer as a “zombie drone” to send spam that looks like it came from you. Malicious viruses or spyware could be deposited on your computer, slowing it down or destroying files.

By using safety measures and good practices to protect your computer data to avoid data loss situation, you can protect your privacy and your family. The following tips are offered to help you lower your risk while you’re online.

    Install a firewall

A firewall is a software program or piece of hardware that blocks hackers from entering and using your computer. Hackers search the Internet the way some telemarketers automatically dial random phone numbers. They send out pings (calls) to thousands of computers and wait for responses. Firewalls prevent your computer from responding to these random calls. A firewall blocks communications to and from sources you don’t permit. This is especially important if you have a high-speed Internet connection, like DSL or cable.

Some operating systems have built-in firewalls that may be shipped in the “off” mode. Be sure to turn your firewall on. To be effective, your firewall must be set up properly and updated regularly. Check your online “Help” feature for specific instructions.

    Use anti-virus software

Anti-virus software protects your computer from viruses that can destroy your data, slow down or crash your computer, or allow spammers to send email through your account. Anti-virus protection scans your computer and your incoming email for viruses, and then deletes them. You must keep your anti-virus software updated to cope with the latest “bugs” circulating the Internet. Most anti-virus software includes a feature to download updates automatically when you are online. In addition, make sure that the software is continually running and checking your system for viruses, especially if you are downloading files from the Web or checking your email. Set your anti-virus software to check for viruses when you first turn on your computer. You should also give your system a thorough scan at least twice a month.

Use a strong password – and keep it to yourself

Protect your computer from intruders by choosing passwords that are hard to guess. Use strong passwords with at least eight characters, a combination of letters, numbers and special characters. Don’t use a word that can easily be found in a dictionary. Some hackers use programs that can try every word in the dictionary. Try using a phrase to help you remember your password, using the first letter of each word in the phrase.

Be careful if you share files

Many consumers enjoy sharing digital files, such as music, movies, photos, and software. File-sharing software that connects your computer to a network of computers is often available for free. File-sharing can pose several risks. When connected to a file-sharing network, you may allow others to copy files you didn’t intend to share. You might download a virus or bit of spyware that makes your computer vulnerable to hackers. You might also break the law by downloading material that is copyright protected.

    Final Though

These are what we got to protect computer from virus. How about yours? Just share yours on our site. Or you may also visit our official website uFlysoft studio to get more post of data protection.

How to Recover Lost Data from MMC on Mac

A Multimedia Card (MMC) is a tiny memory card that uses flash memory to make storage portable among various devices, such as car navigation systems, cellular phones, eBooks, PDAs, smartphones, and digital cameras, music players, and video camcorders, and personal computers.

MMC was jointly developed by SanDisk and Siemens AG/Infineon Technologies AG, who introduced the product in 1997. About the size of a postage stamp, MMC weighs approximately two grams. This is similar to the Secure Digital (SD card), and smaller than older memory card formats, such as the Smart Media card and CompactFlash (CF card). By October 2002, the Multimedia Card offered a range of storage capacities up to 128 MB.

But just like SD and CF cards, MMC also has to face the data loss problem, today let's learn something about the reasons of MMC data loss. After that, you can easily recover MMC lost files on Mac by yourself.

How to Protect Your Computer Files and Secure Them Safe

Research has shown that users are unlikely (as in "you are not likely to be struck by lightning") to be the victim of an Internet security attack. They are, however, vulnerable to computer virus infections, hardware failures, and to inquisitive students and co-workers. Statistics show that most security breaches are the result of insider misconduct, as opposed to hacking by outsiders. Often this insider misconduct is the result of ignorance rather than malfeasance.

Users should take reasonable precautions to protect the files to avoid data loss on their computers, and to protect data as it transits the Internet. For each user of the Rhodes network, the reasonable level of precautions may be different, and it depends on that user's needs.

All users should take the following basic security precautions:

  • Back up important files.

  • Use a virus scanner on your PC.

  • Regularly check for, download, and INSTALL security patches from the vendors of the software on your PC.

  • Use a secure password for network access controls.

  • Ensure permissions are set properly on files that can be accessed by others.

  • If your files are being stored on a server that you do not control, for example a web or ftp server, and you expect there to be access restrictions (such as your files not being visible outside Rhodes or visible only to you) it would be wise to periodically check that these access restrictions are functioning as intended.

  • More advanced precautions would include:

  • Encrypt, or store off-line, files that are particularly sensitive.

  • Do not send sensitive user identifications, such as address, phone number, personal data, or credit card number across the Internet unless it is encrypted at the source (prior to being sent across the Internet).

  • Use an encryption program, such as Pretty Good Privacy (PGP), if you want e-mail to be private.

  • An additional recommendation for individuals using the Internet for e-commerce or online purchasing or banking transactions is to:

  • Conduct some form of risk analysis to determine the cost effective level of security. At the very least this would be to establish what recourse you have, and what procedures you would follow, were you to discover that your credit card number has been compromised and is being abused.

  • Backing up files

The first basic precaution a user should take is to back up important files. This will not prevent a security incident or hardware failure, but it may reduce the impact if a user is involved in such an incident. On a different level, remember that data stored on your computer would probably be lost if the machine was stolen or destroyed by fire.

Which files should be backed up can easily be determined if a user imagines losing the original files. For example, if a user's files are stored on the local hard drive, what would the user lose that is important if the hard drive files were lost or there was a hardware failure?

Software can usually be reloaded, but a user's personal files may be lost permanently if they are not stored elsewhere.

How many backups a user should make and where they should be stored depends on how important the files are. For most users, one backup to floppy disks or to a hard drive on a separate computer is probably sufficient.

It should be noted that user files stored on central servers managed by the IT Division are backed up to tape on a regular and ongoing basis. Some of these servers make use of RAID technology and/or disk mirroring in order to eliminate problems associated with catastrophic hardware failure.

However, it would be foolish and risky to assume that such automated backups work properly at all times, or have taken place just before an important file is lost and just after it has been extensively modified. System backups concentrate on the bigger picture of how to recover an entire disk partition rather than on up to the minute versions of user files.

    Anti-virus scanning

Users should exercise reasonable precautions in order to minimize the introduction and spread of computer viruses onto the Rhodes networks. Virus scanning software should be used to check any software downloaded from the Internet or obtained from any questionable source.

Using virus protection software means three things: having it installed on your computer; checking frequently for virus signature updates; and actually scanning the files on your PC.

Attachments received by email should be treated with caution. This means do not open email attachments from strangers no matter how interesting they may be. Be equally suspicious about any unexpected email attachment from somebody you do know-it might have been sent without that persons knowledge from an infected machine.

    File and email encryption

Other types of information traveling across the Internet are sensitive user identifications, and files whose content is sensitive to the user.

Users should take one of two precautions, either encrypt the information or don't send it across the Internet.

Examples of sensitive user identifications are address, phone number, personal data, and perhaps most sensitive of all, credit card numbers.

In general, none of these data should be sent across the Internet unless they are encrypted at the source (prior to being sent across the Internet).

An example of a file that would possibly be sensitive to the user is e-mail containing personal information or sensitive work related information such as a newly set examination paper. If a user wants to ensure this information is kept confidential, then it must either be encrypted, or sent some other way (such as through old fashioned SAPO registered mail in a sealed envelope, or by courier). Pretty Good Privacy (PGP) is an e-mail encryption program available on the Internet that can provide encrypted e-mail.

With these, you can secure your data. To get more technical support, view more post on our site http://www.uflysoft.com whenever you want.
